Internet service provider BT has made an announcement of its plan to increase the number of WiFi hotspots to twice of the current level within the next six months, in order to cope up with rising demands by consumers.
It took BT as many as seven years to provide 500,000 WiFi hotspots across the
Dave Hughes who is the director of retail department of BT wireless broadband commented that the real reason for the demand is the handset, which has acted as a catalyst, sprucing growth in the sector. People now prefer to use these handsets to the more conventional laptops to update their social networking sites or even to check their routine mails. Moreover, the unreliable 3G network in the country is also one of the reasons why WiFi hotspots will be used extensively in future, as these will help fulfil the needs of broadband wireless users while they are on the move.
Presently, BT has installed its hotspots at different public places throughout the United Kingdom using its Openzone network, which includes the city centres at 12 different places and also at Starbucks coffee chains across the nation. In his interview to The Times, Hughes sounded very upbeat about the rapid spread of the coverage, and predicted that WiFi hotspots will be seen at every corner of the country in the near future.
